You Would Think The Environment Would Be Top Of The List!

Why have the politicians not taken the environment seriously and made it the top issue?

Tomorrow (17 Oct 2020) N.Z. goes to the polls to elect a new government. Naturally, we have been bombarded with politics over the past weeks as the parties vie for the top job. I’m not usually such an avid follower, I have the party I like (which is not one of the top ones) and go vote, but this time I’ve been following along as I have felt this is an important, turning point election.

As I said in the title, you’d think the parties would have the environment right up in the number one spot telling us what they were going to do. The current Government has offered some policies, but like all the others, they don’t go far enough.

A very prominent freshwater ecologist, Dr Mike Joy had 2 minutes to give an “elevator pitch” to members of our Government including Prime Minister Jacinda Adern, regarding what should be done with the recovery package (after COVID) that is currently on…
