Why are people scared of vegans?
Even though veganism is becoming more mainstream, omnivores still insist on throwing comments like “you need to eat some meat!” What makes them so scared of the vegan in the room?
Looking at fear on its own, the dictionary meaning is:
fear n: a feeling of distress or alarm caused by danger or pain that is about to happen.
fear vb: to be afraid of someone or something.
However, put into the context we’re discussing here, it is more fear of the unknown that makes the meat-eaters try and distance themselves from vegans.
Facing anything unknown will give a certain amount of anxiety, that’s human nature, but to get around this, one should take the time to discover, educate oneself and learn as much as possible about the “unknown”, which, in turn, will banish the fear.
As for omnivores, It’s been ingrained into society that one can’t survive without animal protein by excellent marketing strategies from the meat industry. Because of that, it’s always such an uphill battle convincing meat-eaters that if they go without their meat, they won’t suddenly fall over or get sick through not eating properly.
