Vegan Foods Now Available.

We’ve all seen how quickly big food companies have jumped on board the plant-based train with the increase of vegan foods now available.

The choices of plant-based foods today are a far cry from how it was when I first went vegan. Back then, the food selection when you went out was, well, nil. Maybe a salad, which quite often was simply lettuce, tomato and, cucumber, carrot if you were lucky. But no dressing as it would have egg in it. You could get fries, but they might have been cooked in lard oil. Plus, the fryer was also used to deep fry food such as chicken and seafood.

Most people hadn’t even heard of “vegan”. Vegetarians were classified as hippies, and anyone going entirely plant-based had to have been an activist, anarchist, or bordering on insanity. Whatever the reason, vegans were certainly made fun of.

It’s an entirely different story today with the vegan foods that are now available. It’s a veritable feast compared to the past as more and more cafés and restaurants take on board pure plant foods and get creative.

Of course, more is needed. Not all chefs and cooks are as liberated as knowing how to cook without animal protein lurking somewhere in the dish. However, when celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay start offering…
