There are many myths around the world surrounding veganism, so it’s time to bust a few of them. Here are my favourite 5 vegan myths.

I’m sure you will come across people trying to tell you what you, as a vegan, should be eating or doing to stay alive. Perhaps these busted top 5 vegan myths will help you to answer the doubters, the naysayers, and the cranks who can’t get out of their own way!

1. Going vegan is too expensive.

This one is top of the list. I often hear it and always delight in busting the ‘too expensive’ myth.
Currently, vegetables are expensive (well, here in Aotearoa, N.Z.). But then that applies to meat-eaters just as much as it does to vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free, and anyone who eats. When vegetables are so expensive, the best alternative is to buy frozen.

What people have wrong is that they believe all vegans eat processed foods, e.g. Impossible Burger, Sunfed Chicken (a N.Z. brand) etc. But most vegans know about chickpeas, lentils and beans, and we can find tins of these at a much lower price than any type of meat. And, if you want to save money, then buying these items in bulk stores and cooking them up oneself is the most frugal way to go. (Something I did way back when…
